Michigan Blimpie’s Norovirus Outbreak

The Kent County Health Department (KCHD) became aware of an apparent foodborne illness outbreak on May 5, 2005 after several individuals and groups that had ordered and eaten sandwiches from a Grand Rapids, Michigan Blimpie’s restaurant reported becoming ill. At the conclusion of its investigation into the outbreak on May 18, the KCHD announced in a press release that approximately 125 people had become ill with Norovirus after eating food purchased at Blimpie’s.
